The NaNo Novel Tag

Hey everyone!

You can probably guess by the title what this tag is going to be about, but can you guess who created it? (answer: meeeee!)

So I had the idea for this because I basically want everyone to tell me about their NaNoWriMo projects in extensive detail.

With this tag, you can give a simple summary, scream about it to the world, or give us ice cream while we listen to your rant about how you’d like to set it on fire already.

As you can tell, it’s kind of a freeform tag, BUT I am a rational bean so here are a few rules.

Rules:

  1. Thank the person who tagged you (if you don’t, you are an ungrateful swine who should be reprimanded by the high kings of old)
  2. Explain a bit about the tag (just in case some peasants don’t catch on)
  3. Chat about your novel.
  4. Tag at least 5 friends (or sworn enemies) to do it too! (and let them know they’ve been tagged)

So without further adieu, here is my NaNoWriMo novel!!!!!

AIN’T IT PRETTY?!?!

The title is “Rain or Shine” and it’s a contemporary novel.

*gasp*

I SAID IT.

Yeah, I’ve never ever written a contemporary before! In all my years of writing–NEVER!

It’s not that I’m against it or anything, I just don’t generally read a lot of it, much less write it!

I’m kinda excited. PLUS, Rain or Shine is going to have a simpler plot than my other novels, so it should be a ton of fun to write!

What is it about, you ask??

“Daisy Morris is an imaginative, lighthearted twelve-year-old who looks at the world like a blank canvas ready to be painted. When a new family moves to apartment 14, she befriends Oliver Holland, a boy with only nine months to live. When Daisy finds out about his rare case of Leukemia, she’s determined to make it the best months of his life. But the grand adventures she has in mind quickly begins to shatter when Oliver has a devastating idea of his own.”

I’m really excited about this one!

What makes this story special is the heaviness of it mixed with a good dose of joy and fun. The aspect of Oliver’s Leukemia is only the tip of the iceberg. It’s really about two twelve-year-olds who end up finding out more about life than any grown-up around.

It shows the beauty in the heartbreak and how short, yet sweet, living is. Daisy seeks joy in every situation, whereas Oliver finds the meaning and depth.

I’m not really sure how to classify this??? It’s technically middle-grade, but I feel like the storyline is more YA?

I don’t know.

Anyway, TA-DA! I’m still trying to wrap my mind around actually writing it because NaNoWriMo seems so far away! (Newsflash: It’s NOT!)

Something else that’s going to be a challenge is how vastly different Rain or Shine is from any other novel I’ve written. For me, NaNoWriMo has kind of fallen in an awkward place. I’m going full-steam with Where the Ghosts Lie on Wattpad and am a little more than halfway done. Of course, I can’t write 50,000 words in a month and post a new chapter of WTGL every week.

I say that because I’m currently fully involved in WTGL, so I’m busy with adult characters, EMP blasts, gunfights, explosions, blood, car-chases, and grown-up themes (trying to get as much out there before I take a break in November).

Which, as I mentioned, is very different than Rain or Shine, but I can’t take the time to submerge myself in a contemporary-type world because I have to keep up with my other story!

However, I suppose that’s a rather interesting conundrum because I kind of look forward to the surprises Rain or Shine will bring because I haven’t plotted at all whatsoever.

So there you have it, folks! I’m really excited about this new adventure, and I can’t WAIT to hear about yours!

      1. Aww! Thank you, dear! I actually don’t use a specific size? I edit all my covers on Picmonkey and crop it to my liking. It usually works pretty well, I don’t k ow about printing though??

  2. I love your novel idea, Nichole! It sounds beautiful. I’ve never written a contemporary novel, but I have an idea for one. So I’ll let you go first and you can tell me how it goes. 🙂 Anyway, great post and happy writing!

    1. Thank you!! Haha, yeah it’ll definitely be interesting. I kind of feel like if Edgar Allen Poe decided to write teen fiction 😂 And I’m also worried if I’ll be able to cope with the lack of violence or not 🤔
